Seeking Original Articles & Photographs (Compensation Available)
Cooperation Humboldt’s Community Food Guide (CFG) - formerly known as the Local Food Guide by Locally Delicious - is an annual publication that actively promotes access, equity, education, and empowerment in relation to our local food system. 15,000 copies are distributed to 250 locations throughout Humboldt and Del Norte counties.
WRITTEN SUBMISSIONS
We are seeking submissions for our Spring 2021 issue. Final articles may be between 300-1,500 words. Compensation is available on a sliding scale. BIPOC and LGBTQ+ contributors will receive highest priority for compensation. Please submit a pitch (just a paragraph is fine) for your article by January 31, 2021. If approved, the deadline for completion of your full article will be February 15, 2021. Your pitch should include the following:

PHOTO SUBMISSIONS
We’re also seeking original photographs that illustrate the priorities outlined below. Compensation is available on a sliding scale. BIPOC and LGBTQ+ contributors will receive highest priority for compensation. Please submit photos by January 31, 2021. (They will not be used unless/until we reach a mutually acceptable agreement.) Your pitch should include the following:

Our priorities include the following:
- Presenting useful and empowering information about growing and consuming locally produced food in a format that is fun and easy to understand.
- Proactively soliciting input from under-served/under-resourced populations and working to make the CFG more useful to them.
- Centering the cultural knowledge, lived experiences, and wisdom of the original inhabitants of this land with respect to our relationship with food and the natural world.
- Supporting BIPOC-, Women-, and LGBTQ+-owned food businesses.
- Leveraging the CFG to strengthen and grow our local food system and to promote food sovereignty, localization, and non-corporatization of our food supply.
We are open to any articles that meet the priorities listed above. Some specific ideas for articles are listed below, but please do not feel limited by this list -
- News about food sovereignty/security related developments in the community
- Profiles on local businesses/individuals/organizations doing good work in this field
- How to access nutritious local foods affordably
- How to grow and responsibly forage food
- Food forests
- Importance of localizing our food system / problems with our current corporatized system
- Information about connection between wellness (physical and mental) and food
- Information about the relationship between food and climate change
